The
eight room main house is single story with either cathedral ceilings or 9
foot ceilings. There is 170 square feet of south facing glass which is protected
from mid-day summer sun by ample roof overhang. Craftsman wood finish
is used throughout with double glazed Marvin windows and glass doors. The
front doors are triple glazed, leaded, beveled glass in Mahogony frames.
"The living space includes the main house and nearby guest quarters
with a total of 2181 square feet. The main house has two bedrooms and two
full baths along with a living room, dining room, kitchen with pantry, breakfast
room and utility room with an area of 1731 square feet. Slate stone provides
an attractive floor covering in most rooms and wall to wall carpets are used
in the master bedroom and study. The air tight and heat/coolness tight home
eliminates drafts and allows comfortable use. The guest quarters in an adjacent
building add another 450 square feet of living space with bath and utility
kitchen. The guest quarters features two queen sized Murphy beds and a twin trundle
bed.

The walk-through kitchen is designed for cooking with a large opening to
the dinning room for conversation and food pass through. Kitchen use is aided
by ample cabinets with full pullout drawers and a double sink with instant
hot water. A rough river cut Brazilian granite counter top and a five burner
gas Jenn-air cooktop with a Best Brand powerful stove fan/vent make cooking
a joy. A door off the kitchen gives immediate access to the kitchen garden
for vegetables and herbs. The stainless steel KitchenAid refrigerator with
filtered cold water is cabinet depth for ease of access and has the freezer
below. The Thermador three unit assembly includes an electric oven, warming
oven and microwave. The adjacent pantry allows convenient extra storage.

Care was given to design the home for entertainment and five of the nine
doors connect the inside and outside entertainment areas for ease of people
flow. The brick deck with cantilevered cedar sun shade and gas grill is connected
to the living room, dinning room and the breakfast area as well as access
to the English summer house and directly to the garden. Overall, the room
size and placement, number and placement of doors, and the kitchen dual access
with the pass through allow parties of 50+ people in comfort without congestion.

The placement of the pellet wood stove in the study allows for winter comfortable
use even if you are sitting for hours at the computer or reading. High performance,
stereo, Bose speakers are in five different spaces including the deck and
hot tub and are controlled from a central point in the study. The home has
central air conditioning and propane gas heating via an air duct system.
The English summer house is octagonal shaped and glass on all sides and
made of hard eastern Cedar. Access from the main deck brings one to the summer
house deck made of Ipe wood (Brazilian walnut). The operable screened windows
on four sides and the deciduous tree plantings surrounding the garden house
providing summer shade, allow comfortable day use in all seasons.
The workshop/garage building with guest quarters on the second floor accommodates
many guest with two Murphy beds and a trundle bed. The
bath with bay window and utility kitchen add to guest comfort along with
a wood fired stove.
